New to boating?

If you are new to boating the amount of things to think about can seem quite daunting at first. But don't let that put you off.

It is important, however, to get good advice.

Firstly you need to think about what sort of boating you would like to do. Whether you prefer the sound of the wind in the sails and want to cruise or race, or you would rather reach your destination faster in a power boat. Will you then be wanting to do some extended cruising or is it more a case of pootling around on the South Coast of the U.K.?

Are you more likely to crew on friends boats or is the ultimate aim to be master of your own vessel?

The next thing to think about is some training. There are lots of training courses to choose from and the RYA is the best place to start to find the right one for you.

Also, whatever you do, don't worry about being a novice boater. Everybody has to start somewhere. It does not matter about your age or ability. Boating can be fun for everyone.

Premier marina staff are very used to helping people with their boats. All you have to do is call them up and they will be only too happy to assist in any way they can. If you are worried about taking your boat through a lock for the first time at Chichester or Port Solent, for example, they can come and explain to you what happens and how best to do it and even come with you the first time you have a go to help you gain the confidence you need.

In various sections of this website you will find other hints and tips and these will be added to on a regular basis so that it will give you a comprehensive guide of what to do as a new boater.

If you are thinking of buying a boat, but are uncertain as to how best to go about it, again we have experienced and friendly staff to help.
