Boatyard
At Port Solent Marina we offer several boatyard services.

Boat Handling
Lift, scrub and block off
- The boat is lifted in slings with a specialist boat hoist.
- Once out the water the hull is pressure washed to remove any growth such as slime, weed or barnacles.
- Once cleaned the vessel is then taken to it's home ashore and placed on blocks or in a boat cradle ready to be worked on.
- The time varies depending on the size and shape of the boat, and how mucky it is but as a rule of thumb, a minimum of one hour should be allowed per boat, or 2 hours if the boat is over 50' in length.
- At Port Solent we schedule the last lift as either 2pm or 2.30pm depending on the size of the boat, so that it can be blocked off before the finish time of 3.30pm.
Lift, scrub and relaunch
- The boat is lifted in the slings, the hull pressure washed, and then the boat floated again once the pressure wash is complete.
- Most people choose to have a lift, scrub and launch in the summer so that the hull is clean and goes through the water efficiently thus increasing speed whilst cruising or racing.
- A hold in the slings is often requested, which is normally for an hour over lunch, as some customers like to change anodes, or have the boat surveyed if selling or purchasing a vessel.
Launch
A launch is normally just that on its own, although some customers may request the boat is held in the slings so they can anti-foul patches where cradle arms were or fit a rudder or such like.
Lift from trailer to yard or yard to trailer
Often a pressure wash (scrub) is requested if the boat is being lifted out the water on to a trailer.

Movement Ashore
A movement ashore is the movement from one location in the yard to another, either to have the hull shot blasted or to be moved into the boat shed or vice versa or similar
Movement in cradle
This is when the boat is moved in the cradle so that access is available to the patches beneath the cradle arm pads for either antifouling or GRP work. Quite often requested if a hull requires an epoxy coating or other treatment.
Mastwork
- The unstepping or stepping of a mast using the 'static' crane.
- Should the mast require replacement, re-rigging or replacing this is often requested.
- It is recommended that mastwork is carried out on vessels before or after they are lifted, as it is safer and easier to complete the work with the boat afloat rather than high up on cradles ashore.
- Premier provides the crane and driver to remove the mast.
- The actual unstepping or stepping of the mast and any other rig work must be carried out by a qualified rigger as arranged by the owner of the boat.
Step/unstep bare mast and store on deck or mast rack: £11 per metre of boat length and per mast (excluding tensioning/fitting electrics).
Storage
Storage at Port Solent varies according to the time of year. From October to March there is storage space for upwards of 350 boats, and 150 boats from April to September.
- 90% of boat storage space is in the boat parks and car parks at Port Solent, however there is storage space in the locked compound and the boat shed depending on the nature of the work required and the people working on the boat.
- Busy times - October through to June, the diary books up about a month or two months in advance. July - September two weeks notice required.
- Trailer storage is available in the trailer park. Many customers don't wish to store trailers on driveways so the trailer park makes for a convenient and secure home.
- Catamarans can be stored at Port Solent assuming the beam is less than the width of the dock.
All storage for multihulls charged at 1½ monohull rate.
