Boatyard

At Southsea Marina boatyard we offer several boatyard services which are listed below.

Opening hours

Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm (excluding Bank Holidays)

The last yard operation will commence at circa 3.15pm.

Boatyard charges

At Southsea Marina all prices include movement to/from the lifting dock negating the need for the owner to attend. View our Boatyard charges page for Southsea boatyard rates and charges.

Boat handling

There are various options available to you depending on your requirements.

Lift, scrub and block off

  • The boat will be lifted in a straddle boat hoist and the underwater section washed with a pressure washer.
  • Depending on the type of boat, it may then be put into a cradle (subject to availability) or blocked off.
  • Yachts which are blocked off will be supported on wooden pit props.  Power boats will be stood on wooden blocks and supported either by metal stands or wooden pit props.  In all cases, no supports must be adjusted by the customer, including props, stands and cradle arms.  If you wish these to be moved then the marina staff can arrange to do this if considered safe to do so.
  • The average time for this operation is one hour.

Lift, scrub and relaunch

  • The boat will be lifted, the underside washed with a pressure washer and on completion re-launched and taken back to berth.
  • In this case, depending on size of boat the operation will take circa one hour and does not allow time for any works to be carried out on the boat whilst it is held in the slings.

Launch

In the case the boat will be collected from a position ashore, launched with the hoist and taken to berth.

Lift from trailer to yard or yard to trailer

In the case the same procedure applies as lift and block off except that the boat will taken off the trailer and blocked off, or lifted from blocks to a trailer.

Hold in slings

This is normally used in conjunction with the Lift, Scrub and Re-launch and at additional charge, the boat will be held for one hour in the slings to allow works to be completed.  However, anti-foul must not be applied to the boat during this operation.

Movement Ashore

In this case the boat, whether blocked off, in a cradle or on a trailer, will be relocated from one position to another, for example when a vessel is delayed in launching it may be necessary to move the boat in order to launch another vessel located behind it.

Movement in cradle

The service would be used when an owner wishes to prepare/paint areas behind the supporting pads of the cradle.  The boat would be lifted and re-positioned in the cradle in order for these works to be carried out.

Mastwork

  • Step/unstep bare mast and store on deck or mast rack: £14 per metre of boat length and per mast (excluding tensioning/fitting electrics).
  • If an owner requires the mast to be removed from the boat for works then the marina will book the on-site rigger and in conjunction with the marina staff, take the mast down (un-step) and store it either on the deck or mast rack (separate charge applies).
  • Once works are complete, the reverse process will be carried out to reinstate the mast.
  • The mast must be fully prepared by the owner in that the sails and boom are removed, halyards are made back to the mast and all electrics, cables etc are disconnected.
  • Once the mast is reinstated the rigging will be reset to the original position prior to un-stepping.

Storage

  • Storage facilities are available at Southsea Marina, but are limited to circa 130 boats during the winter months and 40 during the summer months.
  • During the winter months the marina uses an area in an adjacent caravan park for additional storage of any non-resident boats and boats on trailers.
  • The marina is unable to offer storage for boats on trailers during the summer months.
  • Undercover storage is not offered by the marina.
  • Limited storage for multi-hull vessels is available and details of availability can be obtained from the marina office.  Storage for multi-hull vessels is charged at 1½ times the standard storage rate.

Due to the limited space available the marina is unable to accept bookings for storage in excess of six months.  For vessels exceeding this period a higher tariff will be applied.

Boat Movements

  • Southsea offers a service where customers can request their boat be moved from the berth to the holding pontoon outside the marina and vice versa.
  • This facility is operated by the yard staff and as a result is available 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).
  • All moves must be booked at least 24 hours in advance and a set of boat keys will need to be left in the marina office.
  • This facility is free to holders of a 12 month berthing licence and a charge applies to all other vessels.
  • Vessels left on the holding pontoon for periods in excess of 24 hours will be moved into the marina and a charge levied.
